Professor Charles Maimela is the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Johannesburg (UJ). He is a Professor of law in the areas of Medical law and African Customary law and has published extensively in these fields of law. He has also written on AI and the Law in how it shapes Curriculum Transformation of the teaching and research of Law in Universities today. Professor Maimela holds an LLB, LLM and LLD all from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He has taught at three South African Universities before joining UJ on 1 September 2025. Professor Maimela is the former Editor of De Jure Law Journal and serves on the editorial board of the South African Journal for Human Rights (SAJHR). Furthermore, he is currently serving as Deputy Chairperson for the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for the Research Outputs Evaluation Sub-Panel for Social Sciences and is a member of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) on the Review Panel for Higher Education Qualifications Framework.

She is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Vaxowave, a technology company partnering with global cloud providers to deliver enterprise-scale solutions across industries. Since its inception in 2018, Vaxowave has achieved double-digit annual growth and was honoured with the Digital Transformation of the Year Award at the 2025 Nedbank Topco Empowerment Awards. Kume began her career in banking, spending nearly a decade across Finance and Technology, where she shaped strategic direction and led critical operational initiatives. At 29, she became one of the youngest directors at a major South African bank, cementing her reputation as a strategic, results-driven leader in complex environments.

Nomalanga Mashinini is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Law at the School of Law, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where she was appointed in August 2022. She holds a Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree from the University of Pretoria (2022), awarded for a thesis titled "The Recognition of Image Rights in the Context of Memes Shared on Social Media", and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education with distinction from Rhodes University (2023). Her research and teaching specialisation is image rights. She examines how social media and artificial intelligence drive the exploitation of people's identities, with particular attention to deepfakes, post-mortem personality rights, prompt injection attacks, sharenting, malicious communications, and AI regulation. Her research dissemination extends to the podcast 'Image Rights by N Mashinini', a creative output that has reached listeners across 87 countries and 370 cities in its three seasons.

Carina is a seasoned executive with experience in the mining and financial services industries. She is an admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, a fellow and past president of the Chartered Governance Institute of Southern Africa, as well as past president of the Corporate Secretaries International Association. In addition to acting in an advisory capacity, she has extensive non-executive director and audit committee member and chair experience serving in both public service and commercial companies over the past 23 years. She currently serves as NED for the Institute of Directors South Africa. Carina is a respected thought leader, with a broad range of academic and other publications and a regular speaker internationally.
